Episode 10, Season 2 Title: "Reunion"
Written by: Tim Minear and Shawn Ryan Directed by: James A. Contner Original Air Date: December 19, 2000
Teaser
"They made her drink. " It's morning, when Gunn brings in an injured Angel to the Hyperion Hotel. Wesley and Cordelia are relieved and quickly run to help. Angel is disoriented from the night's physical ordeal and is mumbling about the night's events. Gunn gives them the low down. He found Angel walking out of Darla's room, but she was gone and the room was totally trashed. Angel has a moment of clarity and he reveals that Drusilla is in town. Angel, obviously exhausted, still finds energy to rise from the couch and continue his search for Darla. Now, it is more important than ever because she's been turned by Drusilla and to save her he must kill her before she becomes a vampire. Angel searches for a weapon as Wes tries to reason with him, but Angel grabs a hold of a stake determined to continue his battle.
Act I
In the offices of Angel Investigations, Gunn is retracing the "family tree" of Dru, Darla and Angelus as Wes and Cordy are trying to find leads. Angel is nervous because they are racing against time because they have until sunrise to prevent Darla from rising. Angel only has one lead: Lindsey. The crew wants to accompany Angel, but he insists on visiting Lindsey's apartment alone.
Lindsey: Can she hear you? Dru: She's dead. Angel crashes down the door to find it completely empty-not even a mouse was a stirring. He walks in, his one lead dead, until the realtor comes in believing Angel a potential customer. Angel explains that it is an emergency concerning "a mutual friend who is in need of immediate medical attention." She mentions that Lindsey had all of his items forwarded to the firm-another dead end. Angel turns to leave, but the realtor comments about Lindsey's visiting cousin: "sweet, but very odd English girl". She mentioned to the realtor that she was pregnant and very excited about preparing the nursery for the upcoming birth, preferably near the stars.
In a plant nursery above the city Lindsey is with Drusilla and Darla's dead form. Dru's face is triumphant at her future little daughter. Lilah and Holland walk in to check on things and he offers any additional help. Lindsey wishes to stay, but Holland convinces him otherwise. All three leave and Drusilla and Darla are alone.
Angel returns with this new information and the team quickly begins to work on a location. Angel knows that Drusilla would want something "traditional" ergo dirt, but she also had a thing for the stars. None of the possible locations seems right until Gunn puts the clues together: a plant nursery! Cordy tries to find one that works with W & H.
Angel steps inside a plant nursery beneath a starry night. Inside is a raised flower bed filled with dirt that Angel immediately begins to comb through with his hands. He finds Darla's human face and readies the stake above her chest. But Angel hesitates a moment too long, and Dru surprises him with a shovel to his back. While she and Angel are catching up Darla rises. Angel runs to Darla's side to finish her off, but she is gone. She in turn surprises Angel and lifts him off the floor choking him, testing her rediscovered vampire power.
Act II
Drusilla tries to welcome her new-born daughter into the world with open arms, but this distracts Darla and Angel frees himself. Drusilla fights Angel in an attempt to give Darla a chance to get away. Darla tackles Angel through a window. Drusilla follows them and Darla with a vamp face attacks her. Angel pulls her off and is ready to stake her when she recognizes him, "Angel?" Dru attacks from behind, which gives Darla enough time to walk to the edge of the building and calmly jump off. He runs to look over the side of the roof but nothing. He turns and finds himself alone once again.
Angel returns to headquarters with the bad news, but the good news is that Darla and Dru are apart. If they can get to one before they reunite, then perhaps they have a chance at preventing them from going happy all over town. Angel has no leads once more except for W & H. He passes out weapons and paints a dire picture of what may happen if they wait. The crew reluctantly follows their leader out the door.
At Lindsey's office, Holland wants to know if Lindsey is bringing a date to the party at his home. Lindsey is dateless and the partners aren't too happy with Lindsey's lonesome state. Holland is going to celebrate by opening a case of 1928 Chateau Latour that evening to toast their success. Dru steps out from the shadows at the mention of the wine and Holland greets her with a forced smile. Dru warns them that Angel is coming, but she refers to him as "Angelus." Lindsey picks up a ringing phone, there is a vampire in the building. Lindsey opens the door and its Darla. She quickly takes his head into her hands and smells him, but without cause throws him on the floor and grabs Drusilla and both run out. Holland takes the phone and orders security to let them out peacefully. He points out as he leaves, "Healthy attachments Lindsey."
"I thought it was what you wanted... " Angel is driving hellishly to W & H, when Cordy has a vision. Angel is annoyed, "Maybe it's a false alarm." Gunn and Wes are angered by Angel's callousness and insist on following Cordy's vision. Angel isn't all that convinced, but quickly turns the car around once Cordy waives a stake at him.
In down town Los Angeles, Darla is fighting Dru, who isn't fighting back at all. A car hits Dru and to the stunned face of the driver she quickly rises without a single scratch. Darla follows her into the street and pummels her against the car. Dru cries out, "Grandmother, why?" Darla spits back, "Why?" Dru is feeling her pain and replies, "I thought it was what you wanted: To be saved." Dru begins to cry and Darla comforts her in her arms. A frustrated driver walks up to them to clear the street, but instead Darla's vamp face greets him. She feeds, finally her birth is complete. Dru is smiling as Darla suggests a shopping spree. The two giggling she-vamps walk off to the nearest store.
Act III
"...a massacre?" In a gas station, a guy is holding a gun against his chest in front of an altar to the demon Morgog as he mumbles "I will throw out my worthless life for you!" The crew walks in just in time, but Angel instead of dealing with the situation with care, throws the radio into the altar and grabs the gun out of the devotee's hands. Angel quickly and roughly deals with the potential suicide to the stunned faces of his employees. Cordy quickly runs to the aid of the young man, while Wes and Gunn try to get Angel to stay but he refuses to hear them out and heads to W & H.
Drusilla and Darla are at a boutique trying on hats and looking at clothes. Dru's chest begins to ring and Darla plucks out the cell phone. Holland is calling and offering Darla and Dru something better than just a spree-a nice massacre, with the support of the firm. Darla isn't really interested and hangs up. She walks over a dead salesgirl and goes after the live one because they need some shoes. As she tries to crawl away, Darla snaps her neck.
At W & H, Lilah, Holland and Lindsey are glowing over the latest development in Darla's personality. Suddenly, Angel crashes through the window and grabs Lindsey demanding the location of the she-vamps. Holland introduces himself to Angel as Head of Special Projects. Angel tries to obtain the information but Holland only reveals that "Darla is just a tool- means to an end." A team of security guards with stakes in hand surround Angel and Holland and Angel finds out that he is the project. Holland must leave to his wine tasting party at his home and isn't about to be delayed, so he let's Angel go. The guards escort Angel out and Lindsey accompanies him until he's put into a police car. In the car, Kate is waiting for Angel and she explains the two murders at the clothing store at Fifth and Hill. Angel expects Kate to do her typical rant, but Kate finally realizes she can't stop Darla. To the surprise of Angel, Kate has the police car pull over and she unlocks Angel's cuffs. He is free to go and he heads to the scene of the murders.
The doorbell rings to Holland's home and his wife Catherine welcomes Lindsey. In the wine cellar, Holland is commending his division on their work and progress and offers a toast. The deliciously dressed Dru in red and Darla in black interrupt Holland's speech. Holland's amazed faced turns into a question. Unfortunately, Catherine invited them into their home believing them guests. Dru licks a drop of blood from the edge of her lips, savoring it. For once, Holland's face finally shows human emotion. Both vampires turn to face everyone in the room with their true faces as Darla reminds Holland about his earlier suggestion, "I believe you said something about a massacre?"
Act IV
Police cars line the street in front of the clothing store. An investigator is inspecting the scene and feels someone but he raises his head and looks at the mirror in front to see if there is anyone behind him but he sees no one. The investigator goes back to his work, but Angel is behind him and walks into the back dressing rooms.
"Why aren't you afraid?" In the wine cellar, Dru begins to count the lawyers that are future snacks. Lilah is visibly frightened, but Lindsey actually appears content. Darla only has eyes for Holland. She didn't like being manipulated and used by everyone in the room. Darla didn't enjoying her suffering as a human especially returning to Angel and begging for his help. She despises Holland for her humiliation, but she takes it like a vamp now and so must Holland.
At the clothing store, Angel opens a dressing room and finds a frightened woman in the corner. She was hiding inside while Dru and Darla had their little spree. She overheard everything and mentions she was lucky because they left to a party, a "tasting" as it was described. Angel helps the woman step out of the dressing room and she leaves to find a police offer.
At the wine tasting party, Dru is sensing the original use of the wine cellar: a bomb shelter. Holland is attempting to be in control of the situation, but Darla knows the ways of W & H. Plus, it doesn't help that she smells the fear of everyone in the room, everyone except Lindsey. Darla seems to like this. Holland tries to convince Darla about the good things that have happened so far but she isn't convinced at all. Holland realizes he can't talk himself out of this as he meets the gaze of his guests with a frightened one of his own.
"And yet, somehow I just can't seem to care."
"You're all fired. " Outside of the Manners home, Angel walks up to an open door to find a trail of blood leading to the dying Catherine. She whispers for his help. Dru feels Angel is there. Angel goes down the stairs to the cellar where he is greeted by Darla and Dru's vampy faces and the rest of the W & H party's frightened ones. Angel remarks, "I'm sorry I didn't get to you in time." But Darla only smiles, "I'm not." Angel is standing quietly at the threshold of the cellar doors. He doesn't seem intent on saving anyone. Lilah quickly cries out for help as he continues to take in the scene before him. But Angel ignores their pleas as his eyes turn blank and he calmly closes the doors and locks them as Holland offers to negotiate for his help from within. Darla quickly aims her fangs for Holland's neck to silence him as Dru stares at the locked doors and whispers, "Daddy." Angel walks up the stairs to the sounds of frightened cries from the cellar.
Angel sits behind his desk as he explains the night's events to the stunned faces of Wes, Cordy and Gunn. All three are condoning him. Angel reasoned that W & H brought their demise on themselves. Wes pleads, "Right now, the three of us are all that's standing between you and real darkness." Angel agrees but for the second time that night Angel's eyes are free of emotion as he calmly says, "You're all fired" and walks out, leaving his ex-employees speechless.
