Episode 20, Season 3 Title: " A New World"
Directed by: Tim Minear Written by: Jeffrey Bell Original Airdate: 6 May 2002
Teaser
Angel and Connor meet eye to eye and in a slow motion sequence Connor fires two stakes at his father, while Groosalugg immediately throws his axe. Angel tries to stop Groo but its too late. One stake misses Angels heart by an inch but still impales itself in his shoulder and the second misses as Angel moves from its path. Connor manages to stop the axe with a long blade tied to his arm. Once again, Connor points his weapon to his father, Interesting.
Act I
In the middle of the lobby Angel realizes who the young man standing before is, My God its you. An amazed Angel once again has to dash away from the stakes and he hits the floor, just as in Cordelias vision. An incredible fight ensues, which proves that Connor has excellent fighting skills. He easily defeats Gunn and Groo. Angel realizes he must stop his son but before he nearly slices Connors throat he quickly backs off and offers his hand to Connor who refuses it and runs out into the sunlight as Gunn and Groo stop Angel within inches of the direct sunlight. They instead run to catch him, but Connor flees jumping on top of a passing bus.
The crew returns inside the Hyperion lobby and Cordelia reveals that was her vision that just played out. Fred looks up the bus number on the internet, they find its heading downtown and Angel quickly takes off via the sewers. Gunn and Fred will follow on foot and Groo and Cordy will stay behind to guard the dimensional opening in case other unfriendlies happen to drop by. Lorne will go see a guy he knows who might put him in touch with someone that can close portals.
A knock on Wesleys door reveals Lilahs unwelcomed presence. She drops by with a job offer for Wes with full medical, dental, 401K - the works plus access to the largest reference library on mystical and supernatural happenings but he refuses outright. She offers him a gift of Dantes Divine Comedy The Inferno and reminds him that in the story the worst spot in hell is reserved for those who betray. She leaves him with a thought, Dont think youre too good to work for us.
In the middle of a busy street Connor rides on top of the bus then suddenly jumps off.
In the sewers, Angel talks to Gunn and Fred on his cell and they are hot on the trail of Connor or put a better way, on those who have seen him. Not that many people see a boy dressed in animal skins on top of a LA public bus everyday. They continue to follow the trail and so does Angel from underground.
From atop a viaduct, Connor hears a young girl talking to a man. He jumps down and walks toward them and sees the girl being dragged into a nearby broken car. He interrupts but the thug calls his henchmen and they surround Connor. Hes no match for the surprise tire wrench that connects with his head and he falls.
Act II
Beneath the viaduct, Tyke takes away Connors trophy necklace but Connor fights his gang taking them down, then Tyke aims his gun at Connor. Sunny helps by kicking the car door open causing Tyke to misfire into one of his own men. Upset, he turns the gun on Sunny inside the car but Connor saves her by knocking Tyke out. Sunny quickly steals his jacket with the money and drugs taking Connor with her but not before he takes Tykes ear.
At the Hyperion, the dimensional portal is semi-active with electrical sparks as Groo stands perfectly still with sword in hand below the opening. He comments to Cordelia that she mentions Angel quiet a bit but she reassures and kisses him. Suddenly, they are thrown apart by the portal and knocked out on the floor.
Across town, Fred and Gunn have found the place below the bridge crawling with police units after Connors encounter with Tyke and his buddies. Angel, safe within the shadows tells them he will take the trail from there because he doesnt want to scare Connor.
In a bad area of town, Sunny and Connor are searching for a room in an abandoned motel full of squatters. She asks about Connors skills and what he does for fun but these questions receive strange answers. They find a room and the she supplies him with used clothes left behind by previous tenants. They have a dinner of beef jerky and chocolate snake cakes, which is a first for Connor. He discovers she takes drugs, which she calls medicine, when shes sad. He inquires no further and continues to enjoy dinner.
Fred and Gunn find Cordy and Groo still unconscious in the middle of the Hyperion lobby floor.
At the abandoned motel room, Sunny and Connor talk about their respective fathers. He thinks if parents are evil they should be killed. Sunny kisses him and then leaves the room.
At Wesleys apartment, we find him typing away on his laptop but he casually thumbs through Lilahs gift, which presents him with images of demons and the like. He shuts it closed.
A while later in the abandoned room, Connor is awakened by the siren of a passing fire truck. He searches through the room for Sunny and finds her in the bathroom with a syringe still lodged in her arm. He checks her but she is dead and picks up the medicine. He turns to find his father behind him.
Act III
In the bathroom, Angel quickly checks his sons arm to make sure that hes not been given drugs. He offers to help but Connor only says, Its too late. Connor is determined to find Tyke who caused her death. He fetches Tykes jacket and sniffs it, Angel knows his son wants to track him down. Angle manhandles Connor to prevent him from getting into any more trouble. Connor gets the point but he makes it clear, My name is Stephen.
In the Hyperion lobby, Cordy and Groo are explaining what happened to them. During their time out, anything could have crossed over. Fred shows them a book of the first creature that came through with a warning that it always has a mate. Before they give in to calling Wes, Lorne walks in with Mistress Meerna, specialist in dimensional magic.
At the abandoned building, Angel resigns himself to call his son Stephen an un-Irish name and tries to talk to him for the first time. Angel doesnt want to lose him again and theres so much catching up. Father and son are watching each other, ironically Connor is now wearing Tykes black leather coat. Angel tries to explain about so many things and apologizes for not trying harder to find him. Connor mentions another father that told him about Angelus, the thing that kills and drinks blood. Angel shows Connor his second facea face Angel hoped his son would accept one day. Tyke interrupts their talk with a gun and his gang.
Act IV
In the abandoned room, Angel wants to talk out the situation, to show Connor a different example than what his son is used to. Tyke is in pain, a missing ear can cause that, but before things get out of hand of one of Tykes henchmen comes in with news that cops are surrounding the motel.
Back at the Hyperion, Mistress Meerna checks out the tear in reality to Quor-toth and reveals that something punched its way through, because portals dont exist to and from that dimension. Lorne hands her materials and she works her mojo on the tear, Forras a ka ul do. In tempor lyta and in a few seconds its sealed. Cordy asks if something else came through but the Mistress isnt sure and leaves before she finds out.
With cops everywhere, the men are trapped in the room but Angel and Connor quickly move and fight Tyke and his men. For a second Tyke takes Connor as hostage but the LAPD punches through the wall with massive fire and both fall to the ground. An officer comes in with a shotgun and Connor runs to the window to escape at Angels urging but he hesitates. The officer aims and shoots but Angel takes the shotgun blast with his back. This seems to surprise Connor and Angel lunges at him and both escape through the window.
Once on the street, father and son, hide to avoid the police units but Angel is hurt and is slow. Connor seems surprised that Angel saved him and Angel invites him to stay at the hotel with no pressure. Angel asks, Youre not aloneyou know that, right? Connor answers, Yeah, I know. And with the black leather jacket flapping in the air, Connor runs into a dark alley, and leaves Angel to return alone.
Moments later, Connor stops in front of a black shadow, and a familiar yet aged face appearsHoltz, Hello Son. Connor replies, Hi dad. Father and son are finally reunited.
