Episode 22, Season 3 Title: "Tomorrow"
Written & Directed by: David Greenwalt Original Air date: 20 May 2002
Teaser:
At the Hyperion lobby, Groosalug offers Cordelia a special brew, Mok-nah, a soothing brew to relieve tension since she is worried about Angel. He also offers to rub her Shlug-Tee, the tense neck muscle, but she thinks it means something else until he explains. Angel enters with news that he found Holtz and that the adopted dad wants the best for Connor, which means returning home to him. Cordy is happy for Angel and hugs him as Groo watches taking his own sip from the Mok-nah.
Across town in the hotel back alley, Connor holds his dead father in his arms and Justine adds fuel to the fire by adding that Angelus killed Holtz without reason, because Holtz was going to leave. She offers to assist in the revenge but Connor refuses her help and she asks, What do you want to do? Connor is silent but determined to make his demon father pay.
Act I
In a Hyperion bedroom, Cordelia and Angel peruse the sixth accommodation for Connors homecoming. Cordy isnt used to calling Connor by his other name; Stephen, but Angel is too busy thinking about the details of having a son; new clothes, a fifty cent allowance, and a TV, which Angel doesnt own. Angel is also facing the reality of being a vampire dad but Cordy reassures him that his big heart will be good enough to win Connor over. Lorne interrupts to let them know that he is leaving to Vegas. A friend needs a singer and a seer for his nightclub near the strip. Hes grateful for everything and gives them a warning to not turn their back on Connor any time soon.
Near a forested area, Connor and Justine park their truck with Holtzs body. She offers to bury him, recalling that she murdered Holtz in an intense flashback. Connor refuses her offer, kisses his father good-bye and swears that he will lay waste to the evil. Holtzs body is thrown on the ground and Connor quickly chops the head off to ensure that he will not rise again.
In a local bar, Lilah joins an already drinking Wesley and reminds him that Connor is an incredible possibility that he should be researching, and not wasting his talents. She continues to remind him of the precarious situation he is in: Should he help? Should he kill Connor? A man like Wes has already thought about such things and it is clear that it is an agonizing place to be. Lilah doesnt know how to take a hint to leave so; Wes grabs her by the neck and offers to show her how it feels to have your throat slashed.
In the forested area, Holtzs body is burned as Connor and Justine watch.
At the Hyperion, Gunn and Fred arrive looking for Angel but the only one available is Groo. Angel and Cordy return from upstairs to find out that Connor knows Angel went to see Holtz but when Gunn and Fred backtracked, Connor was no longer at the hotel. Connor shows up and reveals only that Holtz is gone. Angel gives him Holtzs letter and he quickly reads it, He says my place is here now. With you. Angel invites him to give it a try and Connor agrees with a small smile.
Act II
In his new bedroom, Connor re-reads Holtzs letter as Angel brings up a book shelve and offers him breakfast but he isnt hungry. Angel invites him out to a movie but Connor is rather sullen and suddenly attacks Angel. He quickly stops him and Connor wants to learn moves from his father. Vampy dad smiles.
Later in the lobby, Fred and Gunn have been helping Angel show Connor a few moves. Connor excels perfectly but he isnt a match for his dad. Cordy gets invited to the movies by Angel but she declines since she needs some one-to-one time with Groo. They continue to train at Connors insistence.
Later, Cordelia arrives at her apartment with tuna and ice cream, Groos favorite. Cordy knows something is up when Groo greets her with a serious look on his face, I am not the one you love. He is. Cordy is confused.
Back in Angels bedroom, Lorne drops by to say his final goodbye, as Angel gets ready for the movies. Our talented seer gives Angel a CD of his music but also a final gift. He reveals that Cordelia feels exactly how Angel feels for her. Their love is mutual. (In a transverse of nicely edited scenes we see the following unfold)
At Cordys, shes getting the same spiel from Groo, who has known for a while that his princess is in love with Angel. Cordy is stunned but doesnt refute his words.
Back at the Hyperion, Lorne knows Cordy and Angel have a special connection.
Groo reiterates this as well to Cordy.
Lorne leaves with some final advice that everything is coming together for Angel.
Back at Cordys, Groo wants to know that she loves only him, but her silence is all the answer he needs and gathers his things and leaves. Cordy is left in deep thought and teary eyes.
At a drive-in theatre, the crew--minus Cordy--are watching an action movie with a helicopter action sequence that makes Connor duck in his seat but Angel explains its just make believe. Suddenly, a real helicopter flies above them and men descend via cables. Connor wants to know, Howd they do that?
Act III
At the drive-in, Angel and Gunn jump into action and attack the men, as Linwood and Parker watch the action via cameras in a van nearby. They are surprised by Connors ferocity towards protecting his father. With Connor joining them, the men are no match and the helicopter leaves, but Angel spots the van and opens it. Angel drags Linwood out but they must all leave before the police sirens get any closer. Linwood offers to help Stephen but he corrects the lawyer, My name is Connor. This brings a pride to Angel and his friends.
In Cordys kitchen, she is trying to face the realization that she does love Angel, but a vision of herself comes to her. The vision assures Cordy that she does indeed love Angel and that everything will be okay. She is happy to be reassured.
The crew arrives at the Hyperion and Angel quickly picks up the ringing phone, which he does with a smile and a whistle. On the other end, Cordy wants to talk to him about how he feels about her and Angel gets the idea. She asks to meet him at DuPont Point in about hour as Connor overhears the details. Connor approves of Angel with Cordelia and he continues to hum happily but Fred stabs him lightly with a stake to make sure he isnt perfectly happy.
At Wesleys apartment, he kicks Lilah out of his bed after he channeled his rage and frustration into something else, or better said into someone else, at least for the time being. She gets dressed and compliments him in the only way she can but leaves him with a thought that he is losing his soul.
Angel parks at DuPont Point on a short cliff overlooking the beach, waves crashing near by beneath the star-filled night and he checks his breath.
Cordy is rushing down the highway and checks her own breath as well, but reminds herself that this isnt a date.
Back at DuPont Point, Angel reaches for his cell phone but accidentally drops it into the sand several feet below.
Cordy is talking out what she might say to Angel, but she suddenly begins to glow, freezing all traffic within the vicinity. Shes so not liking this turn of events!
Connor arrives at DuPont Point, and shows Angel how he feels about being family with a surprise punch that sends Angel into the sand below.
Act IV
Connor follows his father into the sand and continues to pummel him but Angel makes no move to hurt his son.
In the middle of the highway with traffic frozen, Cordelia steps out of her jeep and Skip appears, her demon guide explains that she has outgrown this dimension and has now ascended to a different level, where she must continue to fight her battles. Cordy knows her time is short in this reality.
Father and Son continue to fight as Connor takes out a stun gun that he uses on Angel to finally take him down. He signals to a boat nearby with a flashlight.
Cordy cant believe the Powers are interfering on possibly the most important night of her life and she wants Skip to give Angel a message but like before he is not anyones message boy. Cordy refuses to go but quickly realizes that this choice is her last test.
On the boat, Angel awakes to find himself inside a metal box, which Connor and Justine are sealing tightly. He denies killing Holtz and Angel finds out why Connor didnt let anyone hurt him at the drive-in. Angel will live forever in that box at the bottom of the sea.
In the middle of the highway, Cordy knows her destiny and accepts her new role given by the Powers That Be and is assured by feeling that everything is going to be all right. She begins to ascend in a beacon of light up into the sky.
Angel tells Connor that he will one day find out the truth and that he forgives him and that he loves him. With those final words from Angel, Connor places the lid on the box and Justine welds it sealed. Angels eyes never leave Connor. In the middle of the sea, Angel is dumped into the water and his crate descends into the darkness as Connor and Justine watch from the boat.
Back at the Hyperion, Gunn and Fred are looking for Connor and Angel but they are nowhere to be found. Angel doesnt answer his cell phone and neither does Cordy. Fred wonders, Where did everybody go?
On the highway, Skip watches as Cordelia completes her ascension into the sky and disappears.
Meanwhile, Angels metal casket continues to descend deep into the vast, cold, dark sea.
